Summer Steelhead Fishing
The Umpqua is one of the only rivers around that has any steelhead to fish for in the summer. Most of the fishing is done up on the beautiful North Umpqua east of Roseburg. We fish the North Umpqua because the water is much cooler than the lower Umpqua; the fish move to the cooler water and are more apt to bite there. The country up here on this river is breathtaking and when the steelhead are in, the fishing is excellent. We drift parts of the river, and there are also some great fly fishing opportunities in the fly fishing zone. The fly fishing zone is world famous and is a bank-access wade fishery. It is, however, very serious wading, so bring your spikes or cleated waders.
